1. MEDICAL with more & more specialities among the 3 medical facilities - East Texas Medical
Center, Trinity Mother Frances Hospital & University of Texas Health Health Center & 20%
of the local jobs are medical related.
2. EDUCATION - 17,000 students at Tyler Junior College, University of Texas at Tyler & Texas
College - while transient, they spend money.
3. RETAIL - as Tyler has more to offer in shopping, more folks shopping here. It is still easier
to shop & drive in Tyler, then bigger cities - even with the traffic on Broadway!!

Why Tyler is a SPECIAL PLACE. Something is found here other cities don’t have. It’s not coffee
shops, concert halls, museums or restaurants. We would have to build forever to keep up with
some other cities. Tyler helps helps to attract a committed set of excellent leaders dirving the
religious nonprofit sector & transforming the community. “OUTSIDERS” are ACCEPTED & have helped the community on a daily basis. So many firsts in Tyler. Just hang around & observe.

Right now the market in Tyler is seasonal, with somewhat of a slump, but prices holding. Texas
is still doing better than most of the rest of the country, for which we are thankful. Banks are well
capitalized & are and have been making quality loans. As chicken little said “the sky is not falling”, but we need to make prudent financial decisions to make sure it does not happen.
